Planning For Media Video
Initial Song Ideas
Initially me, Craig and Nicole considered genre punk rock as we all felt that it would be a fun and adventurous. After conducting some research into the genre punk rock we felt that the best suited song would be Sum 41, in too deep. Prior to this we gained some quick feedback on the decision we had in mind, asking people's opinions on the song. The opinion from the majority of people that we asked was positive, many people claimed that it was one of their all time favourite songs and we agreed that it would be an excellent choice of song to produce a music video which featured a strong narrative as well as captivating performance.
As part of choosing an unoriginal song we had to acknowledge copyright rules, therefore we emailed SUM 41 UK label Sony BMG to ask for permission using In too deep in our music video.

Below is the letter and E-mail that we sent to Sony BMG

Reason for initial song choice

The reason why our group choice SUM 41 song In too deep is because we felt that we could experiment and be creative with both the narrative and performance scenes. The reason why we say this is because we believe the genre reflects an upbeat and entertaining music video which will encourage people to watch.

Who we are trying to target?

Well, "pop-punk", is a type of music that is dying right now, this is because there are many bands such as "son on dork" and Mcfly who are trying to push their way into this description. It is a catchy type of generic rock which produces huge record sales, so is very lucrative to endorse. Usually three or four band members, two on vocals. Target audience 10 - 25 year olds. Uses simple but very effective riffs and chord combos. Feel good music. Summer music. from a broad prospective it can offend people who like slightly heavier music. this genre was created when punk rock was split into many different and new categories in the late 90's. Usually the listeners and members of bands use toilet humor and sex jokes, this can be very funny at times, but now in 2006 has been milked and milked. Although many will be sad to see pop-punk bands start to disappear, it is a inevitable fact. soza guys.

Record company logo research
Is part of this project we were also given the opportunity to be creative ourselves by creating our own music record company. This will be the name featured on our media products, as well as the company name advertised when we create Facebook groups, Youtube channels, Twitter pages etc. First of all we looked lots of different existing record label logos. You can see a montage of them below...

As you can see they're all quite plain, basic straight forward. All of them feature the company name in their own individual fonts accompanied with basic illustration and layout. We decided to create our own by finding a font on the Internet.Below you can see our logo.

Summary of the genre

Pop punk is a fusion music genre that combines elements of punk rock with pop music, to varying degrees. All music describes the genre as a strand of alternative rock, which typically merges pop melodies with speedy punk tempos, chord changes and loud guitars. About.com has described contemporary pop punk bands as having "a radio friendly sheen to their music, but still maintaining much of the speed and attitude of classic punk rock".
